Review of Salone del Mobile 2023

salone del mobile & euroluce 2023

Salone del Mobile 2023 in Milan was again a great success with numerous furniture brands presenting their latest designs to the public. We would like to take you back to the leading developments of MDF Italia, Acerbis, Paola Lenti and Davide Groppi as well as the fair trends that caught our eye.

MDf italia

During Salone del Mobile 2023 MDF Italia and Acerbis were seen together at a beautiful booth. This one was redesigned by Israeli studio Pitsou Kedem. The new booth design is not a simple exhibition space, but a true architecture in which curved walls and slats predominate, allowing fragments of the interior to be observed from outside. The atmosphere and design of the interior, by the creative duo Meda-Quincoces, evokes a sophisticated and timeless imagery, thanks in part to the styling of the Milanese duo Cameranesi Pompili.

What struck us right away is that the booth is no longer a booth, but an actual architecture. The booth brings a deepening contrast in its clean minimalist lines enhanced by warm tones and high-tech novelties. Pitsou Kedem, the architect behind the booth's design has also come up with a new type of wall system called Pentagramma.

Novelties:

  • Rock Table mini – design Jean Marie Massaud
  • Rock Table maxi – design Jean Marie Massaud
  • Pentagramma – design Pitsou Kedem
  • Carpet Frammenti and Tatami – design Cameranesi Pompili
  • Cosy Outdoor – design Francesco Rota

Acerbis

Acerbis continues the Remasters program, as they effectively describe it, by bringing three iconic examples of Italian design from the 1970s back into production. The booth at the Salone del Mobile will showcase three different scenarios of contemporary living, placing items from the Remasters collection alongside Nanda Vigo's iconic Due Più chair and two creations from the 1970s by Claudio Salocchi: Free System, a sofa composed of fully modular and sectional elements, and Napoleone, a coffee table with an intriguing interplay of mirrors and reflections. Claudio Salocchi and Lodovico Acerbis who both received a Compasso d'Oro in '79 are now presented together as if it should always have been this way.

Novelties:

  • Free System – design Claudio Salocchi
  • Due Più – design Nanda Vigo
  • Napoleane – design Claudio Salocchi
  • New shape Maestro – design Gianfranco Frattini

spotti & Acerbis

In addition to Acerbis booth at the fair, the brand was also on display at Spotti. This Milanese showroom has long been an international reference point for furniture. Art directors Francesco Meda and David Lopez Quincoces have reconstructed - and renovated - the atmosphere of the 1970s Milanese living room. Some of Acerbis' latest designs were exhibited here.

These new versions recall the allure of the 1970s, with elegant bouclé and nubuck fabrics in soft tones for Free System, and sumptuous upholstery in white and rust-colored Mongolian fur for Due Più.

Novelties:

  • Free System – design Claudio Salocchi
  • Due Più – design Nanda Vigo
  • Napoleane – design Claudio Salocchi
  • New shape Maestro – design Gianfranco Frattini
davide groppi

Davide Groppi gave a wonderful presentation during Euroluce 2023. It was a presentation of their most essential works, with many novelties and surprising products. Among these, the following ingredients stood out; simplicity, invention, emotion, lightweight, amazement. These are the fundamental facets that davide groppi's products must satisfy. PAOLA LENTI - VIA BOVIO

In addition to the fair, we also visited Paola Lenti's new location and showroom in Milan. The new showroom is located in a historic building on Via Giovanni Bovio. The idea behind it is to create a place where architecture, art, food and hospitality come together with design; an experience that transcends the typical furniture brand and clearly communicates the company's vision and its commitment to research and experimentation.

The flagship store is designed to establish an ongoing dialogue with its target groups, professionals and end users, while serving as a reliable reference point during Milan Design Week.

The new location is in a former industrial complex in the residential district of Maciachini, an urban area that is growing rapidly and far from traditional design paths.

In addition to exhibition spaces for both indoor and outdoor collections, the spaces will house a restaurant, a charming hotel with a spa, a landscape architecture firm and an art gallery where public events will take place. The official opening of Paola Lenti Milano is scheduled for December 2023, after the completion of the restructuring work.

We found the new venue very inspiring and enjoyed a truly unprecedented presentation. Surprise after surprise. This is the example where art and design go hand in hand. In addition to new designs such as, for example, Tajine, Giorgio, Nami, Noah, Astri and Pod, Kiori, there are also existing designs which show their strength in a new fabric or other complementary designs.
